Mumbai Restaurant Adapts to Local Language Requirement.webp

Mumbai, April 9 A restaurant in Mumbai's Kandivali replaced its Gujarati sign with a Marathi one after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) raised an objection.

The party's local representative, Uday Kondwilkar, said on Thursday that the restaurant, located in the Charkop assembly constituency, had put its sign in Gujarati, and this was circulating in WhatsApp groups.

The restaurant mainly serves 'chaat' (street food snacks).

"On Tuesday, MNS workers met the restaurant owner and gave him a letter asking him to change the sign. The owner complied, and the next day, he replaced the Gujarati sign with a Marathi one," Kondwilkar said.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's rules, all shops and establishments in Mumbai must display their names in Marathi (Devanagari script).
