Mumbai, March 8 A proposal has been submitted to the Maharashtra government for the installation of the world's tallest national flag at the iconic Haji Ali Dargah, located off the coast of Mumbai, according to Suhail Khandwani, a trustee of the dargah.

Khandwani stated that the dargah, situated on a small island approximately 500 meters from the Worli coast, is the final resting place of the revered 15th-century Sufi saint, Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, and is one of India's most important spiritual landmarks, visited by millions of people annually.

"It holds a significant place in Indian history and continues to serve as a symbol of faith, inclusivity, and communal harmony. This small island will now have the world's tallest national flag. We have submitted a proposal to the Maharashtra government for permission," said Khandwani, a trustee of both the Haji Ali Dargah and the Mahim Makhdoom Shah Baba Dargah.

He added that the flag, which will be located near the shrine, is intended to be a symbol of patriotism, unity, and the shared identity of the nation.

"Special piling and high-quality metal will be used for the flagpole, and special fabric will be used for the flag. We need to consider the fact that it is located near the sea," Khandwani informed.

The announcement was made during the weekend, coinciding with the holy month of Ramazan. A special 'sehri' (pre-dawn meal) was organized by the two dargah trusts in association with the Legend group, with Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Parsi, Sikh, and Buddhist priests participating.
