Municipal Initiative Boosts Glass Recycling.webp

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has established a glass recycling plant at the Material Recovery Facility Centre in Akbarpur Bahampur, Vijay Nagar, providing the city with an innovative solution for managing glass waste. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs stated that the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with the Excise Department, has directed all bars and model shops to hand over empty glass and wine bottles to the Municipal Corporation's glass recycling plant for scientific recycling. It added that this proper channeling prevents bottles from being reused for illicit liquor production and also reduces the risk of injuries to waste pickers by ensuring safe and responsible recycling. The Ministry said that the initiative has been supported through Corporate Social Responsibility, with active participation from women in Self-Help Groups. Furthermore, it stated that this collaborative effort not only ensures the scientific disposal of glass waste but also creates dignified livelihood opportunities for women.
