Phagwara, May 10 — Panic gripped residents of Phagwara in Punjab after an unidentified object crashed into a field between Khalyan and Sahni villages in the early hours of Saturday, creating a large crater and triggering an explosion-like sound.

According to local reports, the loud noise was heard at around 2:40 a.m. from the fields belonging to a resident, Major Singh, in Khalyan village. The mysterious object left behind a crater measuring approximately 7–8 feet deep and 12–14 feet wide, officials confirmed.

Fragments of the unidentified object were found scattered across the field, adding to the intrigue surrounding the incident. Additionally, wheat straw in the vicinity caught fire following the object's impact. However, the flames were quickly extinguished by the local fire department, preventing further damage.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.

In response to the event, Additional Deputy Commissioner Akshita Gupta issued an advisory instructing the closure of all marketplaces in Phagwara city for the day, with the exception of medical stores. Authorities also ordered that malls and high-rise commercial buildings across the district remain shut as a precautionary measure.

Investigations are underway to determine the nature and origin of the object.
