
Kohima, March 12 The Nagaland government on Thursday said it is making efforts to operationalize at least 19 centrally sponsored Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) currently under construction across the state by next year.
In a written response to a starred question by JD(U) MLA Jwenga Seb in the assembly, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed the House that the EMRS projects in the state are categorized under both the old and new phases of the scheme.
He said the earlier phase was implemented by the Planning Department, while the new phase is being executed by the Department of Tribal Affairs.
Under the old scheme, the construction of an EMRS at Phenshunyu in Tseminyu district has reached about 75 per cent physical progress, and more than 96 per cent financial progress, while the one at Kade in Phek district has achieved around 60 per cent physical progress, with full financial progress already recorded, the CM said.
Both projects are expected to be completed by next month, he said.
Rio said that under the new scheme, EMRS projects are currently under construction at Chiechama in Kohima district, Tuli in Mokokchung district, Pelhang in Peren district, Vidima in Dimapur district, Riphyim in Wokha district and Phelungre in Kiphire district.
These projects have recorded physical progress ranging from about 33 per cent to more than 60 per cent, with completion targeted by December 2027, he said.
In addition, several EMRS projects are being implemented by the Department of Tribal Affairs in locations including Watiyim, Longwa, Tening, Longsa, Noklak, Noksen, Akhakhu, Japu, Botsa, Tamlu and Yimjenkimong, the chief minister said.
