
Khargone/Raisen (MP), March 24 A devotee from Uttar Pradesh, who had come to offer prayers at the Omkareshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh's Khandwa district, drowned while bathing in the Narmada river on Tuesday, a police official said.
The official said the incident occurred at the Naavghat Khedi Narmada Ghat, under the Barwah police station area of adjoining Khargone district.
Station in-charge Balram Singh Rathore said Sankalp Gupta (24), a cloth merchant and resident of Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, drowned while bathing in the river.
Boatmen present at the ghat saw the young man drowning and pulled him out and took him to the local civil hospital, from where he was shifted to Indore for further treatment, he said.
However, doctors in Indore declared him dead, said Rathore, adding Gupta was visiting Omkareshwar with his family.
Earlier, on Monday, a teenage student from Silwani town, 105 km from Raisen district headquarters, died while bathing in the Narmada river in the temple town of Maheshwar in Khargone district.
Raisen Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDOP) Anil Maurya said Arush Jain (16), the only son of Silwani-based businessman Seemant Jain, had gone to Maheshwar with his friends when the incident occurred.
He said divers stationed at the ghat rescued the teenager and rushed him to a local hospital.
The SDOP said due to his deteriorating condition, Arush Jain was referred to Indore, but he died on the way.
