Nashik, March 12 A protest march was held in Nashik on Thursday against the decision to cut down trees in the Tapovan area for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The march, which started at Hutatma Chowk and ended at the Nashik Municipal Corporation headquarters, was attended by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Amit Thackeray.
Thackeray said he met Nashik Mayor Himgauri Aher-Adke but was unable to meet the civic chief.
"The mayor has said a committee will be formed to look into the issue. I will be part of the committee. However, I came to meet the NMC commissioner (Manisha Khatri) but she did not meet me. I do not know why. Not a single tree will be cut until the committee is formed and citizens get all the answers," Thackeray informed.
