Thane, April 7 The Navi Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a Goods and Services Tax (GST) official and his associate for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 9,000 from a software developer, an official said on Tuesday.

Based on a complaint, Amit Bhanudas Giri (45), a Class 2 officer posted at Konkan Bhavan, and his associate Vaishali Vasant Kadam (39) were apprehended on Monday while accepting the bribe amount.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (ACB), Navi Mumbai, Dharmaraj Sonke, said, "The complainant had received show-cause notices regarding PTEC (Profession Tax Enrollment Certificate) and PTRC (Profession Tax Registration Certificate) with digital signatures."

When he met the accused official at the GST office to resolve the matter, the latter allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 to settle the notices, Sonke said.

Giri was caught red-handed in his cabin while accepting Rs 9,000 from the complainant, and his associate, involved in the conspiracy, was also taken into custody, he said.
