
Chandigarh, March 19 A ban has been imposed on opening meat shops near sensitive locations within all municipal areas in Haryana during Navratri, an official statement issued on Thursday said.
Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel said the prohibition has been enforced in the vicinity of religious places, places of worship, and educational institutions, under the provisions of the Haryana Municipal Act, 1976, and the Regulation of Sale of Meat Act.
No meat shop can be opened in other locations without prior permission from the licensing authority of the relevant local body, he clarified.
Goel said the order was issued to ensure peace and law and order in urban areas during the festival period. He said strict action will be taken against those who operate meat shops without permission.
The minister further directed that all municipal officers must put in place robust arrangements for regular monitoring of meat shops in their respective jurisdictions and ensure strict compliance with the order.
