Naxalite IED Detonation Results in Injury in Bijapur.webp

Bijapur, February 23 An Indian Police Service (IPS) soldier was injured on Monday when a pressure-activated improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites detonated in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, a police official said.

The incident occurred when security personnel were conducting an area domination operation in the southern part of the district, he added.

"The IPS soldier inadvertently came into contact with the pressure IED, triggering an explosion that left him injured. After initial treatment, he was referred to a medical center for further care," he said.

Security personnel on patrol duty, as well as civilians, have often been victims of IEDs planted by Maoists along roads and dirt tracks in the remote areas of the Bastar region, which comprises seven districts, including Bijapur.

On June 9 last year, Additional Superintendent of Police (Konta division) Akash Rao Girepunje was killed and two officers were injured after an IED planted by Naxalites at a stone quarry exploded in neighboring Sukma district.
