NCBC Strengthened with New Chairperson and Member.webp

New Delhi, March 27 Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti has taken over as the chairperson of the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), while Kiran Umesh Mahalle has also joined the commission as a member, according to an official statement released on Friday.

Jyoti assumed office on March 18, while Mahalle took charge on March 20, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment stated.

A former Member of Parliament, Jyoti has previously served as a Union Minister of State in the ministries of Rural Development and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. She has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at uplifting weaker and marginalized sections, according to the statement.

Mahalle, a former mayor of the Amravati Municipal Corporation, has experience in social and organizational work and has been involved in programs related to women's empowerment and grassroots governance, the statement said.

The ministry welcomed the new appointees and expressed confidence that their experience would help strengthen the commission's mandate for the welfare and socio-economic development of backward classes.
