NCORD Meeting Focuses on Curbing Drug Abuse in Poonch.webp

POONCH, February 17: Deputy Commissioner of Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma, chaired a district-level meeting of the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review measures taken to curb drug abuse in the district.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Shafket Hussain Bhat, and other district officers participated in the meeting. Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars presented reports on anti-narcotic operations and the monitoring of chemist shops, while the Assistant Commissioner of Panchayat briefed on "Nasha Mukt" (Drug-Free) panchayats.

The DC directed the Drug Inspector to ensure 100% computerized billing at medical shops to prevent the misuse of pharmaceutical drugs. He also called for intensified awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and at the grassroots level, and asked enforcement agencies to maintain strict surveillance and submit monthly reports.

The Divisional Forest Officer was instructed to eliminate illegal cannabis cultivation and strengthen monitoring to prevent illicit plantations.
