Thane, March 11 An NCP (SP) corporator bathed in front of the Thane Municipal Corporation building on Wednesday to highlight the water supply gap in the city.
Corporator Abhijit Pawar arrived at the municipal headquarters around 1:30 pm to draw attention to the severe water shortage affecting his constituency.
Alleging that the city's water distribution system is completely inadequate, Pawar filled a bucket from a tap on the headquarters' premises and bathed in the porch area.
"The water distribution system is faulty, and the personnel responsible for managing the supply are biased. When we contact officials, they offer vague assurances," Pawar told reporters.
NCP (SP) Thane district president Manoj Pradhan said that while newer corporations like Navi Mumbai have developed their own dams, Thane has failed to do so despite previous approvals.
Currently, Thane receives 550 million litres of water supply per day, which is less than the required 621 million litres.
Residents, particularly in areas like Kalwa, have expressed intense anger after many housing societies received no water on Wednesday.
The opposition party has warned of more aggressive protests if the administration fails to fix the distribution loopholes and address the 71-million-litre daily deficit.
