
Chandigarh, March 11 The Punjab Congress wrote to the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday, seeking action against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his alleged inappropriate remarks against women on International Women's Day at an event in Sangrur.
In their complaint to NCW chairperson Vijaya Kishore Rahatkar, the Punjab Congress leaders accused Mann of making inappropriate remarks during a government function held in Sunam, Sangrur, on March 8.
In the letter by Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa and signed by other MLAs, the Congress leaders alleged that the CM made inappropriate remarks while speaking about a female classmate, sharing anecdotes from his student life.
Earlier in the day, Bajwa attempted to move a condemnation resolution in the state assembly against Mann for his alleged comments. However, the speaker refused to admit it.
On Tuesday, the Congress leaders had written to the Punjab State Women Commission against Mann, urging them to take strict notice of the matter and register a case against the CM for allegedly insulting women.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Ganieve Kaur Majithia said she would approach the NCW, seeking action against Mann over his alleged remarks against women.
