Mumbai, March 7 The 16th Neera Desai Memorial Lecture, to be delivered by feminist historian and activist Uma Chakravarti on March 14 at SNDT Women's University here, has been postponed for "technical reasons" and will be rescheduled.

Some technical issues led to the cancellation of the lecture, a source from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey University told

"After reviewing the exam schedule, we will soon reschedule the lecture. We organize many events. Sometimes they are postponed or even moved forward for various reasons," the source added.

The 16th Neera Desai Memorial Lecture, to be delivered by Professor Chakravarti, was organized by SNDT's Research Centre for Women's Studies (RCWS).

Dr. Neera Desai, one of the pioneers of women's studies in India, played a key role in establishing the Research Centre for Women's Studies (RCWS) at SNDT University, widely regarded as the country's first university-based research centre for women's studies.

The RCWS has regularly hosted the Neera Desai Memorial Lecture at the university, with several prominent feminist scholars delivering the lecture in the past.

This year's lecture was announced to the public on Wednesday through a poster shared on social media. It stated that the lecture was being organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra Stree Mukti Parishad (MSMP).

Professor Chakravarti was scheduled to deliver a lecture on 'A Feminist Looks Back: Four Decades of a Long March'. This would be followed by a screening of 'Voh Subah Hami Se Aayegi/That Dawn That We Will Bring', directed by her.

It traces women's movements addressing violence against women and the resistance to it across different regions of India over more than four decades.
