Negotiations Ongoing to Include Private Hospitals in Mizoram's MUHCS

Negotiations Ongoing to Include Private Hospitals in Mizoram's MUHCS.webp

Private hospitals in Mizoram have not been enrolled under MUHCS due to higher treatment costs, according to Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii.

Health Minister Pi Lalrinpuii stated that the government is eager for private hospitals within the state to be part of the MUHCS framework. However, she noted that their service charges are significantly higher, making it difficult for the government to reach an agreement at present.

Speaking to the Assembly during its ongoing session, Pi Lalrinpuii further pointed out that private hospitals enrolled under MUHCS outside Mizoram offer comparatively lower rates. She added that, in emergency cases, treatment in private hospitals within the state often results in larger claim amounts than when patients are referred to enrolled hospitals outside Mizoram.

The Minister informed the House that negotiations are ongoing with private hospitals in the state that have not yet been enrolled under MUHCS, with the aim of reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.

Currently, 16 hospitals and three day-care centers in Mizoram are enrolled under MUHCS, along with 33 private hospitals located outside the state, she added.
