
Kathmandu, March 12 Sixteen Nepalese nationals who were trafficked to Cambodia under the false pretense of obtaining lucrative jobs were rescued and repatriated on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here.
They were taken to Cambodia by various agents and employed in illegal jobs, including online scams and online casinos.
The Nepalese embassy in Bangkok assisted in their rescue with the cooperation of the Cambodian government, according to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
All 16 Nepalese nationals returned home safely on Thursday, according to the sources.
Many other Nepalese nationals continue to work illegally in Cambodia under harsh working conditions, and efforts are being made to rescue them, the ministry said.
Many of them are working without a visa or overstaying after their visa has expired.
