Nepal Election Results to Be Presented to President.webp

Kathmandu, March 18 Nepal's electoral body announced on Wednesday that it will present the final results of the presidential election to Ramchandra Paudel on Friday afternoon.

The House of Representatives (HoR) elections, held on March 5, 2026, elected a 275-member Lower House, known as the Pratinidhi Sabha. Of the 275 members of the HoR, 165 were elected through direct voting, and 110 through proportional representation.

The Rastriya Swatantra Party secured 182 seats, the Nepali Congress secured 38 seats, the CPN-UML secured 25, the Nepali Communist Party secured 17, the Shram Sanskriti Party secured 7, and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party secured 5 seats in the Lower House.

The RSP has secured more seats than the simple majority of 138 seats required to form a majority government. The party is 2 seats short of a two-thirds majority.

Following the receipt of the final results from the Election Commission, the President will initiate the process of forming the new government.

Given that the RSP has already secured a majority of seats, the President is likely to ask the RSP's Prime Ministerial candidate, Balendra Shah, to form the government under Article 76 (1) of the constitution.

The party had projected Balendra Shah, popularly known as Balen, as its Prime Ministerial candidate during the election campaign.
