March 5, New Delhi: Nepal is holding elections today as citizens exercise their democratic rights following protests that led to the ousting of former Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli.

The election is for 275 seats in the House of Representatives of Nepal, with 165 members to be directly elected by the people and 110 members chosen through proportional representation.

The voting process for the House of Representatives election began nationwide at 7 a.m. Nepal time. Voting is being conducted in all 77 districts across the country in a single phase and will conclude at 5 p.m. Nepal time.

A total of 65 political parties are contesting the elections. Under the first-past-the-post system, there are 3,017 male candidates, 388 female candidates, and one other candidate, making a total of 3,406 candidates in the electoral race.

The election comes months after mass protests reshaped the country's political landscape and brought in an interim government.
