Nepal Prepares for Key House of Representatives Vote.webp

February 27, New Delhi – Preparations are underway in Nepal for the upcoming election of the House of Representatives, with polling stations located in border regions placed under strict surveillance.

To ensure a peaceful electoral process, security agencies are closely monitoring polling stations and have categorized them for the March 5 election into three security levels – normal, sensitive, and highly sensitive.

Security personnel have been deployed in larger numbers at vulnerable polling centres, while surveillance has been intensified along the 367-kilometer open border with India.

Home to 1.72 million people, the elections are being viewed as a crucial test for Nepal’s young democracy.

Last year, Kathmandu witnessed massive protests led by Gen Z, sparked by a ban on social media, which eventually led to the ousting of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s government.

The protests, marked by widespread unrest and violence, underscored growing demands for transparency, accountability, and reform in Nepal’s political landscape.
