
Mumbai/New Delhi, February 27 The Ministry of Civil Aviation has notified revised rules for the carriage of dangerous goods in aircraft, which provide for a certification-driven and accountability-based regime for handling such goods.
The rules, which establish a stricter reporting framework, outline the detailed procedures for reporting undeclared or mis-declared dangerous goods. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has the power to order investigations related to the handling of dangerous goods.
The Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026, were notified on February 17 following consultations with stakeholders.
Dangerous goods refer to articles or substances that pose a hazard to health, safety, property, or the environment.
The 2003 rules pertaining to the carriage of dangerous goods were framed under the earlier Aircraft Act and largely functioned as operational compliance regulations aligned with ICAO standards, according to a senior industry executive.
