Bangalore, March 27 – The Bangalore Central City Corporation presented its first budget for 2026-27, totaling Rs 3,427 crore, with a commitment to making every ward's roads "pothole-free" and focusing on strengthening public healthcare.

This is the first budget presented since the creation of the Bangalore Central City Corporation.

Bangalore was divided into five municipal corporations – Central, East, West, North, and South – under the Greater Bangalore Authority (GBA) in September 2025, replacing the single Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The budget was presented by Central City Corporation Commissioner Rajendra Cholan P for the financial year 2026-27.

Calling the budget "truly citizen-centric and human-centric," the corporation said it would deploy bike ambulances under the First Responder Unit scheme to navigate traffic and provide free, life-saving care during the critical "golden hour."

It also announced the establishment of 22 high-tech "smart virtual clinics" at a cost of Rs 19 crore to deliver corporate-style medical services to the doorsteps of the poor.

Additionally, the budget proposes the launch of "Vatsalya Mane," a day-care center for specially abled children, and "Hiriyara Vadi," a residential scheme for elderly persons without caregivers. "These schemes add a touch of vibrant greenery and profound humanity to our concrete city," it said.

The budget estimates revenue at Rs 3,427 crore and expenditure at Rs 3,425 crore, resulting in a surplus of Rs 1.38 crore.

Under the Healthy Bangalore scheme, Rs 40 crore has been allocated for upgrading hospitals.

The budget provides for the revitalization of the century-old Russell Market at a cost of Rs 70 crore.

An additional Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the development of other markets. It also projects a 60 per cent reduction in electricity bills through the use of LED lights and proposes the creation of Blue-Green Corridors to transform Central Bangalore into a safer, more sustainable and vibrant city, it said.

A dedicated Urban Design Cell has been established for the global-standard design of roads and public spaces, the statement said.

A pilot scheme named "Kirumalige – Shuddha Aahaara" (Small Shop – Pure Food), with a budget of Rs 25 lakh, will be undertaken to train and certify street food vendors in food safety.

The corporation said it collected Rs 900 crore in taxes in 2025-26 and has set a revenue target of Rs 1,150 crore for 2026-27.

As part of its asset monetisation measures, the corporation expects rental income of Rs 58 crore from its 438 properties.

Besides this, rental income of Rs 25 crore is expected from 4,772 shops across 112 markets, it added.

Allocating Rs 1,760 crore for public works, the budget provides for asphalting 145 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads at a cost of Rs 217.50 crore. It will also undertake the development of 115 km of ward roads at a cost of Rs 200 crore, with a focus on making them "pothole-free".

Further, Rs 141.75 crore has been allocated for the holistic development of each ward, at Rs 2.25 crore per ward, the budget statement said.

Other works include the construction of 10 new community buildings, upgrading of stormwater drains with World Bank assistance, decorative electrification of major roads at a cost of Rs 15 crore, and the transformation of spaces under flyovers into micro-parks and artistic hubs.

It will also undertake the construction of 500 individual houses at a cost of Rs 35.70 crore, it said.

In the budget, Rs 215 crore has been allocated for solid waste management, and 60 new public toilets and 20 SHE Toilets for women will be constructed. To ensure the welfare of sanitation workers, well-equipped mustering centres and Suvidha Centres with rest facilities will be established in every ward.

Scientific shelters and rescue centres for street dogs will be established at a cost of Rs 2 crore. Free treatment for pets, birth control surgeries and vaccination drives will also be conducted.

In the budget, Rs 15 crore has been allocated for the comprehensive development of over 215 parks. A Putani Park (children’s park) will be built, and Rs 19.38 crore has been set aside for tree care and canopy management.
