Panaji, Apr 3 Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday welcomed the passage of the Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026, in Parliament, describing it as a major reform that will boost "ease of living" and "ease of doing business".

In a post on a social media platform, Sawant said the legislation was a "transformative step" towards building a more trust-based and citizen-centric governance framework.

Parliament passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, on Thursday to amend 784 provisions in 79 central laws to decriminalize and rationalize minor offenses, further improving the business environment and preventing harassment of individuals.

Sawant congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Piyush Goyal for what he termed a landmark reform reinforcing the spirit of "Minimum Government, Maximum Governance".

The progressive legislation removes outdated provisions, promotes decriminalization, reduces compliance burden, and ensures faster resolution of cases, thereby enhancing the ease of living for citizens and improving the business environment for enterprises, the CM said.

He also said the consultative approach adopted while drafting the Bill reflected inclusive and forward-thinking policymaking, taking into account diverse stakeholder perspectives.
