New Delhi, March 29 Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited, a joint venture company of NLC India Ltd and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd, has commenced production from a coal block in Jharkhand, according to a regulatory filing.
This development boosts domestic coal output for power generation, supporting India's energy security amid rising demand, it said.
"Following the commencement of overburden removal on December 19, 2025, the Pachwara South Open Cast Project successfully commenced coal production on March 29, 2026," NLC said in the filing to BSE.
Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), formed to develop coal-based thermal power projects, will primarily use the coal to fuel its 3x660 MW Ghatampur thermal power plant in Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh.
To meet the fuel requirement of this power plant, the Pachwara South coal block, located in the Dumka district of Jharkhand, was allocated to the company by the Ministry of Coal.
The previously unexplored coal block has been fully explored by NUPPL through detailed drilling across the entire block.
The block has an extractable coal reserve of 264.84 million tonnes, with a normative mining capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum and an average coal grade of G10.
