New Delhi, March 24 The Delhi government has allocated ₹62.6 crore for the construction and modernization of veterinary hospitals, along with plans to set up 10 new gaushalas (cow shelters).
While presenting the 2026-27 Budget on Tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government's approach extends beyond human welfare and several measures have been proposed for the care and protection of animals in the national capital.
She said that the veterinary hospitals will be equipped with modern equipment, surgical facilities, and vaccination services to improve treatment and care for animals.
In addition, designated spaces, referred to as "Dog Homes", will be identified across the city where residents can feed and care for stray dogs, she said.
The chief minister further said that the government has renewed leases for existing gaushalas and cleared long-pending dues.
Building on this, Gupta announced that 10 new gaushalas will be established in 2026-27 in collaboration with the community. An allocation of ₹14 crore has been proposed for the initiative, she added.
Last year, the government had allocated a budget of ₹40 crore to set up a 'Model Gaushala' equipped with modern facilities in Ghumanhera village of Delhi. Modern facilities will be provided in this Gaushala for cow protection, milk production, and veterinary care.
