New Delhi, March 19 Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is likely to launch 300 new electric buses on Friday, which will strengthen the capital's public transport infrastructure, officials said.
The transport department will also be laying the foundation stone for a new block at the IP Estate bus depot and distributing the EV subsidy recently announced by Transport Minister Pankaj Singh.
"Around 300 buses will be launched from the IP Estate bus depot, including inter-state buses. The EV subsidy will also be distributed to beneficiaries at the event," a government official said.
With their induction, the total number of electric buses in Delhi will exceed 4,000, establishing the national capital as the city with the largest electric bus fleet in the country, he added.
Last month, the Chief Minister launched 500 EV buses from Ramlila Maidan, inducting them into the fleet of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).
On Wednesday, Transport Minister Singh announced that the Delhi government will disburse EV purchase subsidies to 12,877 beneficiaries whose verification process has been completed.
According to officials, an amount of Rs 24.04 crore will be disbursed to the beneficiaries under the existing Electric Vehicle Policy.
The DTC also plans to launch 12-meter AC buses on routes for inter-state operations between Nanaksar Delhi-Ghaziabad Bus Terminal, which is expected to enhance accessibility for daily commuters and regional travellers.
"These inter-state buses will be electric vehicles and will have all the modern amenities. Some of these buses will be launched at the event," the official added.
The Delhi government has a target of reaching 14,000 buses by 2028.
