Bhabua (Bihar), March 24 Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced on Tuesday that the state government would soon construct a "high-security" prison for hardened criminals, gangsters, and terrorists on the Adhaura hills in the Kaimur district.

The prison will be equipped with high-tech CCTV cameras, along with scanners, panic alarm systems, a high-tech command center, and many other devices equipped with new technology, officials said.

Addressing a public meeting in Bhabhua during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Samridhi Yatra, the DyCM, who also holds the Home portfolio, said, "The state government will soon construct a 'high-security' prison for hardened criminals, gangsters, and terrorists on the Adhaura hills of Kaimur. This prison will be exclusively for notorious criminals and terrorists, and their activities will be constantly monitored."

A Home department official, who did not wish to be quoted, said, "With several incidents of hardened criminals/gangsters running their empire of crime from inside jails coming to the fore, authorities concerned decided to open a 'high-security' prison in the state.

The investigation into certain cases pertaining to loot at jewellery showrooms and several other cases revealed how gangsters, who are lodged in jail, remain in touch with their associates who are outside the prison," he added.

Only hardened criminals and gangsters will be kept in this prison, said the official, adding that video conferencing halls will also be set up to hold court proceedings through video conferencing to ensure the security of the undertrials. Detailed reports of visitors who come to meet undertrials at jails will also be thoroughly examined before giving them permission, he added.
