Shimla, March 27 In a first-of-its-kind initiative across India, the Himachal Pradesh government has taken the lead to introduce the "one district, three products" plan in its Budget for FY 2026-27.

This initiative is aimed at revitalizing the rural economy, thereby promoting local empowerment and unlocking the real commercial potential of local products, officials said on Friday.

Under this initiative, three signature products from each district, based on their market potential, shall be identified, and thereafter work towards strengthening the value chain, smarter branding and packaging, enhancing access to the market to achieve higher return on investment for local manufacturers.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "The vision of our government is to make Himachal self-reliant, and ‘one district, three products’ will play a significant role in revitalizing the state's rural economy, thereby working towards achieving our government vision".

Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said the initiative would unlock district-level strengths, while creating sustainable livelihoods and providing a market platform to Himachal's unique products.

"A wide range of products, including agriculture, horticulture, handlooms, and handicrafts, will be brought under its ambit, such as turmeric, ginger, maize, shawls, spices, Kangra tea, paintings, honey, chulli oil, and yak wool, etc., each representing the State's diverse agro-climatic and cultural landscape," he said.

Beyond product promotion, the scheme is expected to act as a catalyst for rural entrepreneurship, with a sharp focus on empowering artisans, women entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and small producers, the minister said, adding that by improving supply chains and market linkages, the government aims to enhance competitiveness and boost incomes at the grassroots.
