Lucknow, March 19 The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to establish five new laboratories in the state's forensic science institute to combat evolving crime methods, an official statement issued here on Thursday said.
These labs, to be established at the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS), will allow students to learn techniques for investigating various forms of crime, the statement said.
Personnel from the state police will also be trained to deal with crimes committed through different and emerging methods, it added.
The labs being set up at the institute include a quantum computing lab and a digital forensic lab, the statement said, adding that they will significantly improve crime investigation and evidence analysis capabilities in the state.
These five labs are already operational at the institute, including advanced cyber forensic, advanced DNA profiling, AI-drone and robotics, documentation examination, and instrumentation labs.
UPSIFS Director GK Goswami said that in line with the chief minister's vision, preparations are underway to establish these new labs.
The quantum computing lab will enable faster and more accurate resolution of complex data analysis and encryption-related cases, proving especially useful in cybercrime investigations, he said.
The 3-D Printing Lab will assist in creating crime scene models, while the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Lab will be vital for examining IT and OT (Operational Technology) security issues, particularly in investigating cyberattacks on industrial establishments and critical infrastructure.
With the launch of these new labs, case disposal will accelerate, helping ensure quicker punishment for offenders and further strengthening law and order in the state, he said.
