New Delhi, March 27 The defence ministry on Friday approved the procurement of weapons and military hardware worth ₹2.38 crore, including S-400 missiles and medium transport aircraft.
The procurement proposals were cleared by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
"For the Indian Air Force, proposals were cleared for the procurement of medium transport aircraft, the S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile system, remotely piloted strike aircraft, and the overhaul of Su-30 aero engine aggregates," the defence ministry said.
It said that the induction of medium transport aircraft, replacing the AN32 and IL76 transport fleet, would meet the strategic, tactical, and operational airlift requirements of the armed forces.
"The S-400 system will counter enemy long-range air attacks targeting vital areas, while the remotely piloted strike aircraft will enable offensive and coordinated air operations, also providing stealth intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance activities," the ministry said.
"The overhaul of the Su-30 aero engine and its aggregates will extend the aircraft's service life and meet the operational requirements of the Air Force," it added.
