
March 14, New Delhi: Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth approximately ₹18,680 crore in Kolkata, West Bengal.
In a major boost to road infrastructure in the region, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several National Highway projects with a combined length of more than 420 kilometres, worth approximately ₹16,990 crore. The projects include sections of National Highway 19 in West Bengal and Jharkhand, and National Highway 114 in West Bengal.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several shipping and port-related projects. These include the mechanization project of Berth No. 2 at the Haldia Dock Complex, aimed at enabling efficient, faster and environment-friendly cargo handling. He also laid the foundation stone for multiple port infrastructure projects in the state.
In the railways sector, the Prime Minister inaugurated six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. He also dedicated two railway projects to the nation — the 16-kilometre third rail line between Belda and Dantan, and the Automatic Block Signalling system between Kalaikunda and Kanimohuli.
Additionally, the Prime Minister flagged off the Purulia–Anand Vihar Terminal Express connecting Purulia with Anand Vihar Terminal.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Modi said that projects worth more than ₹18,000 crore related to road, railway and port infrastructure have been inaugurated and their foundation stones laid. He said that these projects will give a new momentum to West Bengal and eastern India.
