Aizawl, March 19 The Mizoram government will construct a cable car at Vantawng Falls near the Thenzawl town in the Serchhip district to improve tourism infrastructure in the state, an official said on Thursday.
The project, which will allow tourists to enjoy a panoramic view of Mizoram's highest waterfall, is expected to be funded under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, she said.
According to her, Rs 34.50 crore has been received for the project under the SASCI scheme.
Administrative approval and expenditure sanction have been formally granted, the official said.
"Although the financial and administrative hurdles have been cleared, a contractor has not yet been selected to carry out the project," she said.
Vantawng Falls, which is about 92 km from Aizawl, is already a popular destination for domestic and international travellers.
The construction of a cable car is expected to transform the site into a world-class attraction, offering easier access and a unique vantage point of the lush greenery.
Local stakeholders believe the project will generate significant employment opportunities and boost the economy of the Thenzawl region.
