Patna, March 24 Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said on Tuesday that the sale of meat by unlicensed vendors will not be allowed in the state.
Speaking to reporters here, Sinha said, "Licenses have been made mandatory for operating meat shops in Bihar. We are firm on checking the sale of illegal meat by those who sell without a license."
He said that the sale of meat in open places near schools and educational institutions will be monitored in the interest of the public.
"Special monitoring will be done near religious places and schools in order to prioritize public health and cleanliness, which is necessary for the welfare of common people," said the DyCM.
Sinha said this is not a new rule.
"This law is already in place in Bihar. We are just trying to implement it on the ground," he said.
Section 345 of the Bihar Municipal Act, 2007 makes it compulsory for all meat traders to obtain a valid license to operate within urban municipal areas.
