Newlywed's Death Investigation Opens Probe into Wife's Role.webp

Mangaluru (Karnataka), March 31 Police have registered a case against a woman following a complaint by the father of a newlywed man who died after allegedly consuming poison, officials said on Tuesday.

According to police, the complaint was filed by Damodara Shetty of Belthangady, father of Sudeep Rai, who died on March 29 after undergoing treatment for nearly 12 days.

In his complaint, Shetty alleged that his son’s wife, Soumya Shetty of Karkala, had subjected him to harassment and suspected her role in the circumstances leading to his death.

Police said that Sudeep Rai had married Soumya Shetty on February 17 at the Sub-Registrar's office in Puttur after the two became acquainted through Instagram.

About a month after the marriage, Rai allegedly consumed poison on March 17. He was admitted to the hospital and died on March 29.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered at the Karkala Town Police Station under relevant sections, including charges related to harassment and suspected honey-trap, police said.

Further investigation is underway.
