NGT Rejects Recall of Order Diverting Forest Guards for Elections

NGT Rejects Recall of Order Diverting Forest Guards for Elections.webp

New Delhi, April 8 The National Green Tribunal (NGT) said on Tuesday that there was no reason to recall its April 2 order that stayed an order by the Assam government to deploy around 1,600 Assam Forest Protection Force (AFPF) personnel for the assembly elections in the northeastern state.

Assam will go to polls on Thursday.

"We believe that the impugned order (by the Assam government) is fundamentally illegal," said a bench comprising judicial member Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member Ishwar Singh.

"In light of the above, there is no basis for recalling/modifying the interim order dated April 2, 2026, and the interim order will remain in effect until the decision on the current original application," the bench added.
