Hyderabad, March 26 A case has been registered against unidentified individuals following the alleged killing of stray dogs in Nizamabad city, police said on Thursday.

In his complaint, animal welfare activist, A Goutham, stated that stray dogs have been targeted and killed within the limits of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation over the past few months.

The complainant, who works as a Cruelty Prevention Manager with the Stray Animal Foundation of India (NGO), said that on March 23, some unidentified individuals killed stray dogs by administering poisonous injections, and a vehicle was used to transport their bodies.

He further alleged that approximately 1,000 dogs were killed over the past seven months within the limits of the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation.

Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act against the unidentified individuals and the driver of the vehicle.

According to preliminary investigations, three to four dogs were killed and transported in a vehicle, and a search is underway for the owner of the vehicle, an official said.

So far, the carcasses of the dogs have not been found, police added. Further investigation is ongoing.
