
March 10, Kohima: Minister for Mechanical Engineering, P. Bashangmongba Chang, informed the House that the Modern Mechanical Workshop-cum-Training Institute is operational and has begun training in various trades.
Responding to a starred question in the Assembly today, he stated that the institute was inaugurated in September 2025 and has already trained 45 young people in the operation and maintenance of heavy vehicles and machinery between October and December, in collaboration with the Nagaland Skill and Entrepreneurship Development Mission.
He added that the various trades include Backhoe Loader Operator, Track Excavator Operator, Tipper Truck Driver, Tandem Road Roller Operator & Heavy Machinery Mechanic.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed his happiness that more Naga youths are undergoing technical training and entering this field.
Mr. Rio also assured that the government would be willing to provide additional funds, if required, to expand training programs and strengthen skill development initiatives aimed at creating more employment opportunities for local youths in the state.
