
The Public Health Engineering Department, West Khasi Hills, observed World Water Day with a Jal Arpan ceremony in Nongstoin. Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak emphasized the importance of water conservation and community responsibility, highlighting concerns about dwindling water sources due to urbanization and encroachment. Officials noted that while water supply is provided under the Jal Jeevan Mission, communities must ensure proper maintenance and fair distribution. Certificates were also awarded to villages that have achieved functional household tap connections.
