Thiruvananthapuram, April 10 As heavy rains affected parts of Kerala on Friday, bringing relief from the hot weather, the IMD issued an 'orange alert' for two northern districts of the state in the evening.

The India Meteorological Department issued an 'orange alert' for the Kozhikode and Wayanad districts for three hours, starting from 7 pm.

It stated that thunderstorms with moderate rainfall and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 50 kilometers per hour, were likely to occur in isolated locations in the two districts.

Additionally, the IMD said that thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall and winds with speeds reaching 40 kilometers per hour were likely in parts of the Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha districts were likely to receive light rainfall, it added.

An 'orange alert' indicates very heavy rainfall of 11 cm to 20 cm.
