February 24, New Delhi: The northeastern United States has been experiencing a severe blizzard since Sunday, with persistent snowfall and exceptionally strong winds causing widespread disruption across the region.

The storm brought heavy snowfall to parts of the U.S. Northeast, forcing road closures and school cancellations. U.S. airlines worked to accommodate stranded passengers and reposition aircraft and crews as weather conditions gradually improved.

Thousands of homes and businesses were left without power as officials urged residents to stay off the roads to allow emergency crews to clear snow and debris. Zohran Mamdani called on people to avoid unnecessary travel amid the hazardous conditions.

Central Park recorded over 15 inches of snow by Monday morning, with higher accumulations reported across Long Island and parts of New Jersey, where some communities saw close to two feet.

Snowplows were deployed across the Northeast to reduce prolonged disruption. Major cities, including New York City and Philadelphia, opened dedicated warming centers for people caught in the cold.

A travel ban in Rhode Island was extended until Tuesday, while Massachusetts announced new restrictions on nonessential driving in parts of the state. Boston public schools also extended their closure through Tuesday due to continued bad weather.
