ODI Series Preview: Bangladesh Faces New Zealand Challenge.webp

Dhaka, April 11 – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Saturday the 15-member squad for the first two matches of the three-match One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand. The new selection committee, led by Habibul Bashar, has retained the 15-man team, which recently won a historic ODI series against Pakistan 2-1 last month.

According to the schedule, the first two matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on April 17 and 20, while the third ODI is scheduled for April 23 in Chattogram.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue to lead the team, which includes experienced players such as Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, along with some young talents including Rishad Hossain and Nahid Rana.

However, their key batters, Saif Hassan and Atif Hossain, have been struggling for runs, and their form will be under scrutiny when the team takes on the Black Caps.

Five members of the ODI squad – Nahid, Mustafizur, Shoriful, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan – are currently competing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. They are expected to join the rest of the squad on April 12.

Bangladesh are significantly behind New Zealand in the ODI rankings. They are currently ranked 9th. Meanwhile, New Zealand are only behind India in the rankings and are ranked 2nd. Their last ODI assignment was against India. In the three-match series, the Kiwis emerged victorious with a 2-1 score, and they will look to maintain their momentum in the subcontinent. However, New Zealand will be without some of their key players as they are busy playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
