
Bhubaneswar, March 27 Odisha Vigilance officers arrested an irrigation department engineer on Friday, a day after uncovering assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off, vigilance officers conducted simultaneous raids at five locations linked to Panchu Behera, an assistant engineer posted as sub-divisional officer in the Bhanjanagar irrigation division of Ganjam district, on Thursday, they said.
During the searches, officials discovered a three-story building in Berhampur, five plots in and around the town, Rs 18.90 lakh in cash, and deposits worth around Rs 90 lakh in banks and other financial institutions, a vigilance statement said.
In addition, 568 grams of gold, a mixing machine worth Rs 57 lakh, an excavator valued at Rs 37 lakh, a car, and household items worth Rs 8.5 lakh were also found, it added.
In this connection, a case has been registered at the Berhampur vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018, against Behera, the statement added.
