Bhubaneswar, February 24 Several shops were completely destroyed in a fire at a market complex in the Dhauli area of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, officials said on Tuesday.
There have been no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities due to the fire, which broke out around 11 pm on Monday and quickly spread to adjacent structures. This was due to the large stock of flammable materials, including plywood and plastic, that were stored in the complex, they said.
A total of 40 fire tenders have been deployed to contain the blaze, which continues to rage even after several hours, an official said.
"Our team has so far extinguished the flames on three floors of the four-story market complex. Efforts are underway to bring the fire under control on the fourth floor," said Sudhanshu Sarangi, Director General of Fire and Emergency Services.
"All efforts are being made and the necessary resources have been mobilized," he said.
Two employees who were trapped in the fire have been rescued from the complex, the officials said.
The blaze is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit.
