Kendrapara (Odisha), March 25 Ten marine fishermen were arrested from the waters of the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary in Kendrapara district on Wednesday for illegally fishing in the area where turtles congregate, according to a forest officer.
The fishing trawler used by the fishermen was also seized by the forest patrol team.
The fishermen, who are from coastal districts, were later produced before a court and remanded into judicial custody, said Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Manas Das.
The fishing vessel had violated the sanctuary's restricted areas, contravening the provisions of various laws, he added.
