
Baripada, March 1 A 62-year-old tribal woman was allegedly killed by a villager in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, who suspected her of practicing witchcraft, police said on Sunday.
The deceased, Joba Tudu, was from the village of Kumbhirda, under the Bahalda Police Station.
"Jugu Marandi, 26, from the same village, killed Joba Tudu with a sharp object while she was sleeping in her house on Friday night. The accused suspected that she was practicing witchcraft, which led to his father's illness," said Birendra Senapati, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Rairangpur.
After the incident, the accused surrendered to the police, Senapati said.
Police arrested him, and the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy was conducted at the Rairangpur Sub Divisional Hospital, the SDPO added.
