Odisha Police Arrest Six on Theft Charges.webp

Berhampur (Odisha), March 10 Six people, including five from Uttar Pradesh and one from Tamil Nadu, have been arrested in Ganjam district of Odisha for allegedly selling stolen items, police said.

The accused were seen selling items such as televisions, scooters, and mobile phones at low prices to villagers in Lembai, near the Tarsingi police station, on Monday evening.

Upon receiving information, police reached the spot and asked the sellers to produce documents for the items, which they failed to do. As a result, they were taken into custody.

"Since they failed to produce the documents, we suspect that they may have stolen the items and were selling them to the villagers at lower prices," said Subhalaxmi Pujari, the inspector-in-charge of the Tarsingi police station.

"Further investigation is underway to determine where they obtained these items," she added.

The items include four LED TVs, 10 gas stoves, 23 watches, some USB drives, six mobile phones, and three scooters, with a total estimated value of around Rs 20 lakh.
