
Kathmandu, March 13 The father of former Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, Mohan Prasad Oli, passed away after a prolonged illness on Friday.
He was 97 years old.
According to sources from the CPN-UML, Mohan Prasad Oli died in the morning at the Nepal-Korea Friendship Hospital in Bhaktapur district, where he had been receiving treatment for some time.
Later in the day, Oli, the chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), performed the funeral rites for his father at Pashupati Aryaghat in Kathmandu, according to party sources.
Oli, who served as Prime Minister for four terms and was ousted in September last year following massive protests led by the Gen Z, lost the recently held general election to former Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah 'Balen' from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) in the Jhapa 5 constituency in eastern Nepal.
