Olympic Champion Fights Proposed Athlete Screening.webp

March 31, New Delhi – Double Olympic champion Caster Semenya says she will fight against the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to introduce a gene-screening test, a policy that she insists undermines women's rights.

Following an 18-month consultation period, the IOC announced its policy that all athletes wishing to compete in female-category events from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics onwards will be required to undergo an SRY gene test to determine their eligibility.

Semenya stated that the IOC consulted her before the rule change, but they did not listen to her and merely went through a superficial process.

Semenya, who has long challenged gender regulations in sports, said that the policy undermines dignity and autonomy and is based on flawed science.
