New Delhi, April 1 An ongoing art exhibition, “Once Upon a Sculptor”, here in the national capital, traces the artistic journey of renowned sculptor KS Radhakrishnan across decades of creative exploration.
The exhibition, currently underway at Chawla Art Gallery, Saket, brings together a wide range of works, offering a comprehensive overview of the range and emotional intensity that defines Radhakrishnan’s sculptural practice.
Featuring works from different phases of the artist’s career, the showcase spans his early sculptural expressions to later mature creations, providing both a visual and academic insight into the evolution of his practice from its formative years to the present.
“'Once Upon a Sculptor' brings together a body of works that traces Radhakrishnan’s artistic journey – from his early sculptural expressions to the later iconic Maiya and Musui figures – reflecting distinct emotional and philosophical states that together chart the evolution of his practice," said Shibani Chawla, director of Chawla Art Gallery and curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition also holds special significance for the gallery because of its long association with the award-winning artist.
Over the years, the gallery has showcased his works in several group exhibitions, presented his solo show at the India Art Fair 2015, and included key sculptures in its private collection.
Widely regarded as one of the leading contemporary sculptors, Radhakrishnan is best known for his recurring 'Maiya' and 'Musui' figures, which appear in multiple forms and avatars. Each iteration reflects distinct emotional and philosophical states, conveyed through posture and expression.
The exhibition will close on April 30.
