Jammu, March 26 The second leg of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly's budget session is expected to begin on a contentious note on Friday, with opposition parties preparing to challenge the government over its election promises and the restoration of statehood.

During the 18-day first half of the session, which began on February 2, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his ministers presented the budget for the 2026-27 financial year, as well as the supplementary statement of expenditure for 2025-26, along with grants from various ministries.

The second part of the budget session will be held in March and April, with four and five days of business, respectively, officials said.

The session is expected to be marked by intense debate as members of opposition parties will introduce private member's bills and resolutions on various issues. They are also likely to challenge the National Conference government over its election promises and the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood.

Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather said that all necessary preparations for the session have been completed, with a focus on ensuring smooth conduct and effective utilization of time.

The budget session will conclude on April 4.
